European Script Competition deadline expired...
…but there have been not enough votes from the community for us to hand out the prize. The most votes a single script has been given were eight, two below the requisite ten
So instead of keeping on beating this obviously dying horse we are calling off the European Spec Script Competition in this form. However, you see, this money is burning our pocket so we are devising a new way to give out the prize, and hopefully much more. What we have in mind is a jury-based assessment system, that is we are intending to focus more on the quality of the uploaded screenplays rather than who can rally more troops to vote on them (although, judging by the poor number of votes, our fears of screenwriting being an extremely lonely profession have been confirmed – writers need to get our more, we guess; you and us both.)
We have received a couple of e-mails from our kind users, advising us on how to try to make the community more active, increase the number of uploads and create more buzz around the site. Thanks for the suggestions and the kind words, we hugely appreciate them. And keep writing to us with any advice you may have on improving the site (or if you are feeling particularly lonely during the writing process).
In the coming months we are focusing our energies into coming up with a new, fairer competition with better prizes, plus to make ScriptBase known among more and more producers all across Europe. We are planning to travel to Berlin for the film festival and contact different producers’ networks, calling their attention to the number of quality screenplays uploaded. Thankfully, if nothing else, the failed first round of the spec script competition was remarkably good for attracting a good number of uploads. Now we can confidently invite filmmakers to come and have a look at the selection.
We wish a very happy and successful new year to all our users. Keep the screenplays coming, we are making sure producers will come and read them.
