Biography
Matt Sobel graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA’s department of Art. He’s been an active screenwriter and filmmaker for the past eleven years. His last project, X to Y was the audience award winner for best short film at Cinequest 2009 and the Grand Jury Prize winner at the National film Festival for Talented Youth. It also screened at The Newport Beach Film Festival. Prior to that, his film 3-5 Pages was an official selection at Cinequest 2006. The Cutting Room Floor was featured at the Orinda Film Festival in 2004. In 2000 he won First Prize at the National Children’s Film Festival Bay Area Chapter for his movie, Get Reel.
At UCLA the faculty in the Department of Art voted to award him the Emma B Keller Scholarship for outstanding artistic achievement in 2007 and 2008. He also mounted a show of his photography at UCLA entitled Positive After Images. In January 2009, his fine art video Venery was included in the New York exhibition curated by Harry Dodge: Hooded and Headless: An Erratic Survey of Anonymity in Recent Video and Life.
